Background and Issue In order to support various OFDMA parameters, a basic frame structure with three subframe types is defined in SDD, which consists of 5, 6 and 7 OFDM symbols per subframe, respectively In m system, cyclic prefix sizes of 1/8 and 1/16 are both supported –For “1/8” CP case, there are two subframe sizes, 6 OFDM symbols for Type-1 subframe and 5 OFDM symbols for Type-2 subframe, in each frame. –For “1/16” CP case, two subframe sizes, 6 OFDM symbols for Type-1 subframe and 7 OFDM symbols for Type-3 subframe, are adopted to fit in 5- ms frame length for higher spectral efficiency The alignment of uplink and downlink transmissions between neighboring cells needs to be carefully addressed when these cells use different CP lengths; otherwise, intercell interference may occur In this contribution, we suggest that the allocation of different types of subframes shall consider possible collision between the downlink and uplink transmissions when neighboring cells use different CP sizes

Example(1/2) DL : UL = 3 : 5 Scenario: Cells with cp = 1/8 are in UL transmission while cells with cp = 1/16 are in DL transmission.

Example(2/2) The intercell interference are generated as a result of timing offset or propagation delay.

Subframe allocation consideration The irregular subframe allocation must consider the collision between the downlink and uplink transmission across network

Proposed text on IEEE m-08/003r3 [Add the following text after line#13, page#25 in IEEE m-08/003r3] …… A subframe shall be assigned for either DL or UL transmission. There are three types of subframes: 1) the type-1 subframe which consists of six OFDM symbols, 2) the type-2 subframe that consists of five OFDM symbols, and 3) the type-3 subframe that consists of seven OFDM symbols. When the neighboring cells have different cyclic prefix sizes, the allocation of subframes with different sizes shall provide sufficient idle time to avoid the collision between the downlink and uplink transmission across network to reduce the intercell interference.
