Examination Protocol 2009

Timing Make sure you know whether your examination is morning or afternoon. Allow plenty of time for the journey. Morning exams start at 9.00 am, and afternoon exams at 1.30 pm. You should be in school 20 minutes before an exam. If you are delayed as a result of a transport problem, ring the School ASAP.

Illness If you are ill on the day of the exam, you must ring the School immediately. Get a doctor’s letter as soon as possible and hand this in to Mrs Bradley.

Waiting Please do not wait in the foyer for the exams. Please wait in the quadrangle outside the Hall side doors to be called into the Exam Centre, Hall or Gym. In the event of rain, wait in DR1. Wait quietly and listen very carefully to any instructions.

Bags and Phones No bags or phones are to be brought into any examination room. We would rather you did not bring a bag or phone into school at all. If you do bring a bag or phone, they can be placed in lockable wheelie cages which will be kept behind the stage outside the exams office during the examinations – at your own risk! Lockers should not be used during the examination period (except 11A and 11X)

Uniform You must come into the examination room in your full and correct school uniform (including shoes) No additional jewellery or make up is permitted Students who are inappropriately dressed will have to wait whilst suitable uniform is found which can be stressful

Equipment Make sure you have the correct equipment Black ink only – 2 pens. NO gel pens! Pencils, ruler, sharpener, eraser. Compasses, protractor, calculator, coloured pencil crayons, set texts. Appropriate calculator. Plain water bottle (no label). Water only!

Not permitted Correction fluid. Pagers, phones, ipods, electric organisers, electronic/noisy calculators, dictionaries or electronic translators. Canned or cartons of drink, chewing gum. Any other food including sweets. Gel pens – these are disallowed.

Exam Room Conduct Come in and sit silently. Do not turn around or try to catch people’s eye – this is seen as ‘communication’ Put up your hand if you need to ask the invigilator something. Do not start the examination until instructed by the invigilator. No talking until you leave the exam room.

Exam Room Conduct In the event of the fire alarm sounding, do not panic, but follow the instructions of the invigilator in silence. Invigilators HAVE to report anything suspicious, so please make sure that you follow the rules very carefully. Anyone attempting unfair practices may be disqualified from ALL examinations.

Finally Good luck! Prepare carefully. A full copy of the booklet “instructions and Information for Students and Parents” is on the website.
