Then sit with an equal number of students at Tables 1-6. Remaining students sit at Table 7. When all are seated, the last student raises his or her hand and reports that the class is ready."

WARM UP: Why do we study the history of where we live? What are the benefits? What are the challenges?

Behavior of all Teammates: Learning Is a Team Sport! Exercise Your Brain! In order for learning to take place, it is critical that all players have respect at all times! Everyone, including Coach Hancock, will respect all members of the team, faculty, and staff of the school. Team members must also show respect to the classroom and their fellow teammate’s belongings. Good behavior will be rewarded on a constant basis. Each team member should lead by example. If you choose not to have respect for others, please refer to the penalties hierarchy.

Together Everyone Achieves More With Organization, Respect, and Kindness

Get in Position! MRS. HANCOCK Next week we will have assigned positions (seats) … this week we have team building activities to find our positions!

The Rule Book: Work Hard. Be Nice. The following rules outline the behavior expectations of each team member. Rule #1: ALL of us WILL learn = PREPARATION! Rule #2: Leave it cleaner than you found it = RESPECT! Rule #3: If a teammate needs help we give = TEAMWORK! Rule #4: If we need help we ask = COURAGE! Rule #5: If there is a better way we find it = DETERMINATION!

Penalties Mrs. Hancock will issue the following penalties when the rules have been broken. Your player will receive a yellow flag for each infraction. 1 Flag : Verbal Warning 2 Flags : Written record of infraction 3 Flags : Student must write formal acknowledgment of infraction and how he/she plans to remedy the behavior. 4 Flags : Detention (and call home) 5 Flags : Contact with parents and possible in school suspension

Extra Points Rewards will be given for good behavior, solid effort, positive attitudes, and more. Praise note or call home Choose your seat Choose a learning activity Silentball or another game “Awards” – Starbursts, Lifesavers, Fun pencils Extra Yards Homework Passes Computer or iPad Time

Touchdown! NEXT WEEK the class will be broken into 4 teams. Each team will have a name and mascot and will compete to earn yards in order to score a touchdown. They can gain yards by having a positive attitude, making good grades, perfect attendance, cleanest area, and other ways. The teacher will set up a “field” with the four teams represented by footballs, and as the teams gain yards, the teacher will move that team closer to the end zone! As teams move closer to a touchdown, good things will happen… but it will be a surprise However, the teacher can take yards away for misbehavior, lack of participation, or not being prepared as well!

The Playbook The playbook contains the procedures you are to follow each day! Play #1: Entering the Classroom Enter quietly and move your player from the bench to the playing field. Write down HW in your planner. Read the front board. Begin warm-ups. Turn in HW if instructed to do so You can bring water bottles and healthy snacks

As you enter the room, move your player to the field to show that you’re ready to be a team player today!

Play #2: “Give Me FIVE!” In order for our class to remain on task and stay productive, Mrs. Hancock will occasionally need to get your attention. If the class is getting too loud or out of hand, or if Mrs. Hancock simply needs to tell you something important, the following procedure will be followed: Mrs. Hancock will say: “Give Me Five!” In sports, this sometimes means five pushups. However, in this classroom it contains five steps: The steps are: 1: Sit Up and Pay Attention 2. Eyes on Speaker 2: Quiet 4: Hands Free (put things down) 5: Listen Actively

Play #3: Make-Up Game If you miss a day of school, you must follow this procedure to make up missed work: First: Talk to your study group or another classmate to find out what you missed. Talk to Mrs. H if you have questions. Second: Check the “While you were out” bin and write down any homework assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. You can also use the class website! Third: You have two days for every day you missed… unless it was a planned absence (i.e. ski team, football) Fourth: If you missed a test or quiz, schedule a time to make it up.

Make-Up Slip Name:____________________________________________________________ Date of Missed Class:________________________________________________ I wish to make up a: Test Quiz over:________________________ Date and time I would like to make this up:_______________________________ You can make up the assignment on the date you requested. You need to see me to schedule a different date and time. If you fail to appear on the date and time you have scheduled, you have lost the chance to make up this assignment. Thank you, Mrs. Hancock

Play #4: Time Out If you finish your work early - assign yourself - you may choose from one of the following items to work on quietly: Read a book Do a Current Event Write Up Write a letter Do an Extra Credit paper Work on homework

Play #5: Cool Down At the end of class, the following procedures should be followed: 4) Clean up! <- I will say or show a 4! The Team Manager will erase the boards and make sure that everyone’s space is cleaner than they found it. 3)Pack up your materials – including your LIFE (aka binder), homework, and pencil <- 3! 2)Stand up and push your chair in <- 2! 1) Mrs. Hancock will dismiss you or have you line up at the door by saying or showing a 1!!!

Huddle up Coach Hancock will be using teamwork very frequently as a form of an instructional strategy. The rules while in a huddle are: Respect all teammates opinions. Each teammate must contribute to the ending product. Work out disagreements and compromise. Work quietly and stay focused on the task.
