All About Mrs. Shufeldt HELLO!! My name is Mrs. Shufeldt and I teach kindergarten! I hope you enjoy this presentation to get to know me. I look forward to getting to know you.

~Born and Raised~ I was born in Saginaw quite a few years ago. I loved growing up there! In many ways it is a lot like the community here. I currently live in Allen Park with my husband.

MSU GO GREEN ALL THE WAY!! I enrolled in MSU in I have a degree in child development – I am highly qualified to know and be able to meet the needs of your children. I am currently taking graduate classes at MSU – it will be fun to relate to your child on the level of me being a student as well this year! This will show them that learning is never ending, we continue to do it even as adults. GO STATE!!!

Things I like to do for fun: Travel, I love to see new places Go to sporting events – baseball, football, basketball games Play cards, board and puzzle games Work out at the gym Scrapbook Garden Read

Literacy is the Key to unlock their future! Your child will learn the alphabet and its sounds. He/she will blend sounds to read and write words. We do reading workshop with grouping 4x a week. We do writing workshop 4x a week also.

We are busy in Kindergarten! Here is what a day looks like: Morning Check-in and Bellwork Greeting/Carpet time Calendar/Daily Stretch Phonics Snack Literacy Workshop Lunch/Play time Story time Quiet Nap time Math Special Writing Science/Social Studies (Friday’s Art project) Playtime

Friends: Making and having friends is a big part of Kindergarten Learning how to get along with our classroom “family” members is a huge learning accomplishment in kindergarten. Together we will learn to play share, have fun and get to know one another. This is me with some of my friends!

Jefferson Elementary I’ve taught full day kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary School for the past 3 years. I LOVE MY JOB!!! The kids are so much fun, they keep me busy that's for sure but we have a blast all year long!

My Teaching Practice: I believe that students should be actively involved in their learning and understanding of concepts. This goes along with the following slide that learning should be hands on minds on. I like to bring in real things and people so the kids can learn through experiences. Learning in the classroom should be child centered. Your child should be having fun and enjoying what they are doing as well as being able to contribute and have a “say” in what or how units can be studied. I take the stance that in the classroom we are all learners including me, the teacher. My classes always think that is “cool” when the teacher wants to learn and explore things with them.

Hands on Minds on I believe that children learn through hands on experiences. I like to have my kids explore, create, and experience things in the classroom first hand. We take field trips, bring in people and artifacts and let the kids dive right in to help promote investigation and understanding through real life experiences. Through these real-life exploration activities children can question, draw conclusions, and learn with teacher guidance, collaboratively and independently.

-Read, read, read!!! You to them and them to you! -Play phonics games (some of which you will get tonight!) -Help them complete their homework! -Go to the library for story time and/or check out books. -Give them some chores of specific responsibilities to do (setting the table, cleaning their room watering plants, etc. -Have them practice writing their name, (later) shopping list, or letter to friend or relative. How You Can Help - Here are some things you can do at home to help your child be successful:

My Favorite Quote “He who sees a need and waits to be asked for help is as unkind as if he had refused it.” My job is to help your child. I will not wait for them to always ask – I sometimes will help them before they realize they need help. By doing this I hope to create a positive relationship free of fear to ask when necessary!!

Thank you for your time, I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!! Please feel free to look around and explore the classroom now and see me for any additional questions. Please feel free to look around and explore the classroom now and see me for any additional questions.
