ETHICAL ISSUES CONCERNING THE EATING OF ANIMAL FOOD PRODUCTS: HONEY Animal products are a major component of the human diet. As populations grow, demand for these products increases. Concerns arise with regard to ethical treatment of animals and environmental sustainability.

Advantages Natural sweetener  energy Great immunity system builder Bees pollinate many flower species Natural remedy against hangover, sore throat, insomnia Keeps levels of blood sugar fairly constant compared to other types of sugar

Ethical Concerns: Farmed bees compete with local insect and bee populations or nectar Artificial selections of bees will result in genetic shift in bee populations Beekeepers use smoke to tranquilize the bees and kill the queen bees to maintain control over the hive Bees feel threatened and sting out of fear Farmed bees are fed with a pure sugar diet instead of honey
