What are you eating now? Why? Healthy Foods!

Can you remember what you ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the past week? Please write out examples of what you ate for the past week. Save this list, we will be using it later.

What makes a food unhealthy?  Simple artificial sugars  Enriched, bleached or refined flour  Syrups like high-fructose corn syrup (corn sugar)  Saturated fats—four-legged animal fat (like cows), two-legged animal skin (like chicken), coconut and palm oils  Trans fats  Eating the incorrect portion of food from that food group

Examples of unhealthy foods:  Hot Dogs  Butter  White Bread  Potato Chips  Ice Cream  Fast food establishments  McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, etc.

What makes a food healthy?  Lean protein  Unsaturated fats  Whole grain carbohydrates  Fiber  Fresh fruits and vegetables  Eating the correct portion from that food group

Examples of healthy foods:  Turkey, skinless chicken, fish  Broccoli, asparagus, green beans, olives  Skim milk, low fat yogurt, cottage cheese  Most Fish – Salmon, Tuna  Black pepper, oregano, peppermint  Fresh fruit and vegetables
