The First Year Of The War Hitler set off the war by attacking Poland (Sept. 1, 1939) The Soviet Union took over many countries in Eastern Europe The Maginot Line proved to be a failure Mussolini and Hitler conquered France (mid 1940) The only allied threat that remained in all of Europe was Britain

Well, that was a cute war.(: You say that like the war is over.

“Today Germany, tomorrow the world” eh? Yup. I think I’ll finish off the allies.

But, history has proven that Britain can’t be attacked. I’m cooler than history.

Napoleon had trouble when he tried… Well, Napoleon didn’t have tons of bombs!

The Battle of Britain In the summer of 1940, Hitler began his attack on Great Britain (Operation Sea Lion) He planned to destroy the Royal Air Force and then land troops on the shores The German air force, or Luftwaffe, began bombing airfields and aircraft factories

Hey Hitler. We keep on bombing their airfields, but the British won’t surrender. Then we bomb the civilians until they are so tired of war that they demand their government surrender.

The Battle of Britain September 7, 1940 – The Luftwaffe began targeting cities to break English morale People hide in the subways and homemade bomb shelters The children are sent to the countryside The British people rally around their new prime minister, Winston Churchill

Remember me? Neville Chamberlain, the appeasement guy? Well, needless to say, my policies were disasteriffic. And when things start getting really bad, I am kicked out of office and replaced by one of my cabinet members…

“We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets… we shall never surrender.”

The Battle of Britain With the pressure off the airfields, the RAF hit back hard

The Battle of Britain With the pressure off the airfields, the RAF hit back hard Their advantage was the development of a tracking system known as radar

The Battle of Britain With the pressure off the airfields, the RAF hit back hard Their advantage was the development of a tracking system known as RADAR Their secret weapon was an Enigma code machine that had been smuggled into Great Britain in 1938

I’ll get you next time, Britain. NEXT TIME!!!!

The Battle of Britain The battle ended on May 10, 1941 The bombings had lasted for nine months Bored from British resistance, Hitler decided to turn his attention elsewhere
