European Exploration Review

SLAVERY & The Middle Passage Spain and Portugal were the first two countries to bring slaves to the Americas. One of the long term effects of slavery is that some people felt inferior because of their race Slavery increased during the 1500s because of the increased needs for slaves The Middle passage lead many slaves to a life of labor and hardship. African Americans were favored of Natives because they were immune to European disease, provided cheap labor, and they had no Allies in America. About 2 million Africans died on the Journey to America.

European Exploration in the New World Christopher Columbus failed trip to the New World actually increased Spain Wealth The development of New Technology lead to many explorers like Columbus being able to take voyages to discover new territory. The French settled in the area along the Mississippi River The Dutch and French searched for the Northwest Passage and they established trade with the natives. The Northwest Passage was thought to be a route to Asia through North America. The Spanish explorers were able to defeat the Natives because they had better weapons, made alliances with them, and gave them diseases that weakened them.
