By Christiana Reckling The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Location Where was the structure built (geography)? City State of Babylon (Modern Iraq) When was the structure built? Around 600 BC What is left of the structure if it stands today? destroyed in earthquake, only wonder whose archaeological remains cannot be verified.

Purpose: Who built the structure? King Nebuchadnezzar who ruled the city for 43 years Why did they build the structure? built to cheer up King’s sick wife How was the structure used? To relive her depression of the ugly lands

Uniqueness What made the structure unique? irrigated by using water from the nearby Euphrates River. That meant lifting the water far into the air so it could flow down through the terraces, watering the plants at each level. This was an immense task given the lack of modern engines and pressure pumps in the fifth century B.C.. One of the solutions the designers of the garden may have used to move the water, however, was a "chain pump." How long did it take to build it? no answer What materials or construction techniques were used to build the structure? chain pump, stone foundation, clay, irrigation system

Ancient Foresight Are there any parallels to similar structures in use today? Moody Gardens What are they? both have gardens and same irrigation system(with better technology) Is this structure one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World? Yes
