Aim: What is sound? Do Now: Get a textbook and use pages to define the following terms in your note book. 1.Vibrate 2.Sound wave

What is sound? Sound is a form of energy. Sound is produced when matter vibrates.

Sound is usually produced when air molecules surrounding the source of the sound vibrate

What is a sound wave? The movement of the air molecules around a vibrating object. Sound waves move out from the vibrating object in all directions. As sound waves travel away from their source, they get weaker. This is called the Doppler effect.

What are the parts of a wave?

Activity Use pages in the textbook to help you answer the questions on the sheet you were given. A copy will be posted on wagnerhigh.net.

Homework # Create an illustration showing how sound travels. Your picture must show the following: 1.An energy source. 2.The direction the sound is travelling in. 3.What happens to the sound waves as they travel. 4.The parts of a sound wave.
