First Steps Client Characteristics Ethnicity of clients:  44% White, 37% Mexican-American, 9% Other Hispanic, 5% Black, 3% American Indian, 2% Asian/Pacific Islander Average age: 27 years Average of 6 years of substance use On average participants have over 2 children Criminal Justice involvement:  SACPA Probation  SATC/Drug Court  Federal/State/Local Criminal Justice  Increased referrals; from 35 in FY 04/05 to 57 in FY 06/07

Sacramento Roughly 35% of the First Step’s funding is State originated Public Health’s portion is 10% Community Agencies in Lompoc, Santa Maria & Santa Barbara Roughly 5% of First Step’s funding is generated by our providers through local community support Washington DC Roughly 60% of the First Step’s funding is Federal Public Health’s portion is 52% Santa Barbara The match to access the Fist Step’s funding comes from Santa Barbara County Mental Health staff for women, children and families The County provides 38% of the match for Public Health How is the County’s Perinatal Substance Abuse Programming Funded?
