Ms Haney’s Persuasive Response Should parents tell their children about the Easter Bunny, Father Christmas or the tooth fairy? Why or why not? Many people think that telling children that Santa Clause is a real person is like lying them from an early age. I completely disagree with this point. The person who inspired the idea of Father Christmas or Santa Clause was a real, live, breathing person, St. Nicolas. Sure, he may not be alive now, but it’s more the idea. The spirit. Santa Clause to many represents hope, giving, charity. What is wrong with that? Aren’t those qualities what we want our children to have? Children represent innocence. They will argue that Santa or the Easter Bunny exists until they are blue in the face. Their evidence and support for it will be wild and imaginative, exactly what we adults can’t seem to do anymore. So to come back to my argument, yes, I think that believing in Santa, the Easter bunny or any of those other charitable and ‘mythical’ beings is exactly what we need more of. In fact, I am already beginning to think of reasons to why they are ‘real’.

What if it’s not a persuasive writing response? 1.Write a letter to a friend in which you argue for your choice of destination for a holiday you are going on together. 2.Write the text for a website in which you argue that we do or do not treat animals in a humane way. 3.Write a letter to your local MP suggesting how your neighbourhood could be improved for young people.
