What is the Pacific Theatre? ★ Japan vs. Allies ★ In Pacific Ocean ★ Mostly US Fighting w/contributions

Causes ★ Pearl Harbor.

Times ★ December 8, 1942 FDR convinced congress to declare war. ★ Took 3 days for war to be declared ★ December 11, 1942 Adolf Hitler declared war ★ Ended on August 15, 1945

Overall Impact on the U.S and WW2 ★ US ○ Helped boost our economy, but caused rationing ★ WW2 ○ Helped lead to the end of WW2

Bataan Death March ★ Japan invaded the Bataan Peninsula on the main Philippine island of Luzon, which was surrendered by the US on April 9, ★ 75,000 Filipino and US soldiers were forced to march 65 miles from Mariveles to San Fernando to POW camps ★ Japan kept control of Bataan until February ★ April 3, 1946 Lieutenant General Homma Masaharu, Firing Squad

Battle Of Midway ●May June 4, 1942 ●Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto sought to draw the US Pacific Fleet into a battle where he could overwhelm and destroy it. ●The US attacked First and sunk four Japanese carriers, forcing Yamamoto to withdrawal. ●Marked the turning point of WWII in the pacific.

Island Hopping ●Movement from the US led by General Douglas MacArthur, and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. ●Strategy to get closer to Japan and the surrounding Islands. ●First attack -> February > Bloodiest island hopping attack in April. ●US soldiers were not use to that kind of war, they got infected with different illnesses such as Malaria, dysentery and skin fungus.

Significance of the Pacific War. ●The US was able to defeat Japan and overall thanks to all these wars that are part of the Pacific War The US and its allies were able to win WWII.
