Writing Prompt (topic) Many schools across the country are considering to change their typical 180 days--to an extended year round school. There are many people that believe that year round schools would better the student because they wouldn’t have such an extended time off in the summer and forget important materials learned from previous years. Also, year round schools would make better use of schools since they are being used year round. Some people disagree with year round school because it would be difficult for students to get jobs and actually work on a year round school schedule. Also, scheduling competitions for band or cheerleading would be difficult because students would be missing out on more school than they would on a typical school calendar year.

Directions for Writing The principal at your school is debating on changing the school calendar to year- round. Write a letter expressing your views on year round school. Provide specific reasoning and examples to support your position.
