Project Second Wind: Day 4 Today was day 4 of Project Second Wind, and we made progress towards our goal today. As you enter the school each morning this week Student Council members will be there collecting food and money. Set a personal goal of bringing 4 food items or even better - each dollar donated is worth 4 lbs of food. Each student who donates the equivalent of $100 by the end of Project Second Wind will receive special recognition. Let’s sweeten the deal: Bring in 10 cans of food or $5 on Thursday or Friday and receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Nectar Frozen Yogurt Lounge gift card. Better yet – bring in 10 cans of food or $5 both days to receive two opportunities to win

Project Second Wind February 22 – February 26 Oregon Food Bank needs these nutritious foods: - canned meats (i.e., tuna, chicken, salmon) - canned and boxed meals (i.e., soup, chili, stew, macaroni and cheese) - peanut butter and other nut butters - canned or dried beans and peas (i.e., black, pinto, lentils) - pasta, rice, cereal - canned fruits and vegetables percent fruit or vegetable juice (canned, plastic or boxed) - cooking oil - shelf-stable milk -consider donating healthy, low-fat and low-sugar products To ensure food safety, Oregon Food Bank cannot use: - rusty or unlabeled cans - perishable items (applies only to food drive donations) - homemade items - noncommercial canned or packaged items - alcoholic beverages, mixes or soda - open or used items

Air Petition to Governor Brown There are chemicals being dumped into the air by colored glass companies all around Portland that have been shown to give people cancer. My brother (Llewellyn) and I (Matreya Barnett, 6th) have started a students petition to Governor Brown with help from Josie Chatkupt(6th) and Lily Burke(6th). The three of us will be in the courtyard before school tomorrow with signature pages and you can sign the petition in the office. PLEASE NOTE: It is VERY important that NO ONE signs more than once. The entire pages of signatures will be discarded. Also NO fake names. This starts today and ends next Friday, March 4 th. We need 400 signatures. Many people are at risk of these chemicals. We at Sellwood are not in the immediate danger zone, but we are still very close by. Please come see us before school or sign the petition in the office. Thank You!
