Veterans Day Veterans Day started back in 1919 when President Woodrow Wilson declared November 11 Armistice Day in honor of the truce that ended World War I. The word armistice means “a temporary suspension of hostilities by agreement between the opponents”. But the armistice, or suspension of hostilities, ended with the outbreak of World War II. After World War II ended, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill renaming November 11 Veterans Day instead of Armistice Day.
Veterans Day is a American holiday honoring military veterans. Both a federal and a state holiday in all states.
To me Veterans Day means a day where you set aside your normal activities and honor the military veterans for protecting us.
