SciencePlanner2/2/16 Target:be able to explain scientific names. WU:In your table groups come up with seven (7) questions which will sort us into groups. Your goal is to end up with just a few students left after all seven questions have been asked. Rules: 1.No question can eliminate everyone. (Aim for general questions early, more specific later) 2.No mean or malicious questions. 3.Must have two questions that deal with traits. 4.Trait must be directly observable.

Science2/2/16 CW:Two part names (Rules) Vocabulary Design and name your own organism

Binomial Nomenclature Rules 1.All genus names begin with a capital letter. 2.All specific (species) names are in lower case. 3.Both words italicized or underlined. Examples: Wolf – Canis lupus Moose – Alces alces Oak Tree – Quercus alba House Cat – Felis domesticus

Vocabulary2/2/16 Classification – the division of organisms into groups, or classes, based on specific characteristics. Taxonomy – the science of describing, naming, and classifying organisms. Dichotomous Key – consists of answers to a series of questions that lead to a conclusion.
