 Started Spring 2005  Mercy Community Benefits Plan identified obesity as #1 priority  Shasta County Public Health proposed the Healthy Shasta model  Collaborative partnership formed to address childhood obesity  YMCA funding proposal submitted

1. Creating a community that supports healthy eating and physical activity 2. A “movement” of organizations - not a “program” 3. Founded on collaboration not duplication or competition 4. Higher Spectrum of Prevention Strategies

 Contribute financially, allocate resources or a significant in-kind contribution  Commit to “Walking the Talk”- organizational changes and policies  Attend Healthy Shasta Partner Leadership Team meetings and support outcomes through committee and collaborative work  Act as Healthy Shasta ambassadors in the community- keep health in mind when making decisions in everyday work and leadership roles

 Fruits and vegetables Goal: Increase fruit and vegetable consumption in children and adults.  S ugary Beverages Goal: Decrease consumption of sugary beverage by children and adults.  Walking/Biking Goal: Increase walking and biking by children and adults.  Fitness and Play Goal: Increase fitness and play in children and adults.
