PDC’06 - status of deployment and production Latchezar Betev TF meeting – April 27, 2006

PDC’06 – status of deployment and production Deployment  Not discussing central services – all OK.  From Monday – start of deployment of AliEn v.2-9 on all VO-boxes:  standard VO-box setup, LCG (site can still have LCG 2.6 production environment)  LFC as local catalogue everywhere  All done following Stefano’s instruction set  Other sites (Opterons, Itaniums, US) deployed on a site- per-site basis  Issues:  Few patches to AliEn agents provided by Pablo (‘alien- installed update’ works)  Few issues with site configuration (LFC access permissions, application software directory) – most of them solved by now, Patricia is very fast!

PDC’06 – status of deployment and production Deployment (2)  General status:  Ongoing, but very close to being finished for the key sites (list of sites later)  Many new VO-boxes to be configured from scratch, subsequent releases and updates will be much faster  Deployment procedures are quite polished by now  Fast reaction of all experts (site and ALICE) sometimes the solution is found before the problem is reported

PDC’06 – status of deployment and production VO box support  VO-specific software installation and VO-box management:  Regional principle, few named experts handling the installation and support (alicesgm), good overlap and redundancy:  CERN – Pablo Saiz (also AliEn expertise), Patricia Mendez Lorenzo, Latchezar Betev  Italy – Stefano Bagnasco  France – Artem Trunov, Jean-Michel Barbet (Subatech Nantes)  Germany – Kilian Schwarz, Jan-Fiete Grosse Oetringhaus (Muenster)  Russia – Mikalai Kutouski, Eygene Ryabinkin (RRC-KI)  Romania – Claudiu Shiaua  All others (NIKHEF, SARA, RAL, US) - Patricia Mendez Lorenzo, Latchezar Betev  Site related problems are handled by the site admins

PDC’06 – status of deployment and production Site deployment status SiteLCG VO-box env.LFCFTSTo Do Italy:Bari,CNAF,Legnaro,Catania,Torino OK CNAFv.2-9 patches Legnaro – install v.2-9 Germany: GridKA, GSI, Muenster Update to v.2-7 Muenster OK (Opteron) GridKAWait for update and deploy France: CCIN2P3, Subatech, Clermont OK CCIN2 P3 v.2-9 patches, config Clermont - deploy Russia: ITEP, IHEP, RRC-KI, JINR, Troits, SPbSU, PNPI OK nonev.2-9 patches, PNPI - deploy USA: OSC, Houston, LLNL, LBNL noneOSC OK, Houston – deploy, LLNL, LBNL – no structure yet Other T2s: NIHAM, Kolkata, Poland, Czech Rep. OK nonePoland, Czech Rep – deploy Other T1s: NIKHEF, SARA, RAL OK SARA RAL v.2-9 patches

PDC’06 – status of deployment and production Storage  Site storage is still not worked out completely:  General installation of xrootd on site disk servers (see talk of Artem)  Connectivity to storage – firewalled at CERN, solutions are discussed:  As a consequence, applications cannot store/get data at CERN xrootd servers from/to outside centres  FTS  Regular transfer pattern CERN to T1s will be a constant part of the PDC06  ALICE FTS endpoints are now set at all ALICE T1s:  The transferred files will be deleted at the destination – test of service, not (yet) a full-blown method of data replication

PDC’06 – status of deployment and production Conclusions and outlook  Deployment of ALICE specific VO-box software is progressing well, deployment and support team in place  Installation priorities worked out, inclusion of newly installed centres in production is transparent  Very good interactions with site/LCG technical support, all problems are solved quickly, average in matter of hours, longest from today to tomorrow  Production release of AliRoot imminent, physics data production will start immediately afterwards  Question of storage access has to be resolved by then
