Matter: Anything that is real & takes up space. All Solids, liquids & gases. Matter = Stuff MATTER MATTERS

A skinny man is made up of only a little bit of “stuff”/ matter so we say he has a small mass. A large man is made up of a lot of “stuff”/matter so we say he has a large mass.

However, these 2 people may have equal masses. Why? However, these 2 cans may have equal masses. Why?

It’s a MEASUREMENT of the amount of matter that makes up an object. So, than what is mass???

MASS IS A MEASUREMENT… Distance is also a measurement measured in the units of inches or feet. Weight is also a measurement measured in the units of pounds or ounces. So what unit do we measure mass in??? GRAMS or KILOGRAMS

We use a scale to measure weight We use a ruler to measure distance What do we use to measure an object’s mass? A TRIPLE BEAM BALANCE

MASS = WEIGHT
