Seeds appear in fruits Seeds eventually grow into new plants

Roots are what absorbs the water from the soil Roots deliver the water to the stem and leaves Roots absorb water and minerals from the soil like a straw Roots store food for future use

 Stems support and produce the flower buds, flowers, and fruits  Stems can come in all different sizes - lettuce plants have very short stems and the California redwood tree trunk (stem) can be up to 350 feet high 

o The sugar produced by the leaves travels through the stem to the other parts of the plant o Leaves are designed to absorb o In most plants the leaves are the most important food- making part

 Flowers produce pollen and seeds  The pollen that the flowers produce can be helpful for making honey  In most plants flowers are the reproductive part 

 Phloem – The long cells where nutrients, like sugars are distributed in a plant  Xylem – The hollow cells of a plant that transport water and minerals to plant cells  Mineral- A nutrient that xylem transports to the cells in a vascular Plant  Photosynthesis - A system in which the plant creates food  Chlorophyll – A molecule that absorbs and reflects light

TRUE OR FALSE  Roots make sugar  Stems (trees) can be up to 350 feet tall
