History 2000, Version 1.0 for Unix, ESA funding 2003, Version 2.3 for Windows&Unix, ESA funding 2009, Version 2.3 for Mac, internal IRF funding 2015 2 programmers involved part-time Erik Johansson Fredrik Johansson (currently at LPC2E, Orleans) Mac/Linux/Windows with Java 1.8 and VTK 6.2 Major change with the recent VTK version, new interfaces, java support has some issues Java on Mac changed from Apple java 1.6 to Oracle (we target 1.8), “mac java applications” no longer supported, interface to VTK changed Windows port redone from scratch Initial beta testing completed Ready for release in December 2015.
Tasks 1 A) Improve on Usability: 1. Save sessions with all parameters selected on the left column (spacecraft size, labels, footprints, magnetopause, bow shock,..), Done. 2. Improve (magnetic) field line tracing: to be able to switch them to black colours for better visibility in plots, Done. 3. Improve export image with better quality and uses png (and pdf) as export files, PNG done. 4. Add two other lines (text) in the Cluster configuration showing the distances between the four spacecraft, Done. 5. Release a new version of OVT with same functionalities on Mac and PC (December 2015)
Tasks 2 B) Enhanced Planning Support and Orbit Visualization 1. Implement access to orbital data via NASA SSCweb. (Include THEMIS, MMS, and many other SC), Done. 2. use the solar wind dynamic pressure in the JSOC catalogues by default, ?? 3. Conjunction analysis tool, that can find magnetic conjunctions between 2 or more s/c (e.g., a tool that returns the times when s/c are within the same magnetic flux-tube; the user could define the max radius of the flux- tube on the magnetic equatorial plane), REJECTED 4. open/closed field lines boundary on the Earth and different colors for open and closed field lines in the magnetosphere REJECTED
Tasks 3 C) Enhanced Science Analysis Support 1. Implement interface to access real solar wind data via AMDA or CDAWEB, Done. 2. foreshock boundary using the solar wind data, Done. 3. Show archive data (CSA) along spacecraft orbit, started 4. 2D and 3D particle tracing tools. REJECTED

Summary Version 3.0 to be released in December 2015 Many more things to do! Should we continue this activity in 2016?
