What Are Verbs? A verb is a word that tells what people or things do. Verbs are words that show action.

Verbs In The Present A verb that tells about an action that is happening now is in the present time.

Verbs in the present have two forms The correct form depends on what the subject of the sentence is.

Add -s to the verb when the noun in the subject is singular. Examples: –The dog barks at the snowman. –Jill laughs.

Do not add -s to the verb when the noun in the subject is plural. Examples: The boys shovel. Their parents start the car.
