Improving Technical Accuracy Ysgol Uwchradd Casnewydd Newport High School, enriching lives through writing, reading and oracy

Following the staff audit of the literacy marking guidance on the INSET day (4 th April 2014), the most favoured option is as follows. Please try to use the refined marking guidance rigorously this term. Learners’ writing will improve if we have a honed focus on spelling, punctuation, capital letters and paragraphing. There are some departments that may wish to continue to use the codes from the original marking guidance, which is absolutely fine.

MarkMeans Sp x3Spelling mistake, write it out three times and learn it O (circled)Incorrect or missing capital letter or punctuation error //New paragraph needed Ysgol Uwchradd Casnewydd Newport High School

 Sp x3 Write out the correct spelling for the learner and they should be encouraged to write out the word three times and learn it. Between three and five words should be corrected on each piece of work, depending on the ability of the learner.  O (circled) You can put a P or a C in the margin to indicate if it is a punctuation or capital letter error.  // The teacher can use two forward slashes to show learners where they should start a new paragraph. Furthermore, learners should be encouraged to proof-read their own work and use the same annotation to indicate where they intended to start a new paragraph.
