16 Sound Sound produced by a vibrating ruler What you need  plastic ruler  clamp 1.Clamp a ruler to a table at the 5 cm mark. What to do Press down the free end of the ruler and then release it suddenly. Video: Sound produced by a vibrating ruler

What is the origin of the sound produced? 2.Repeat step 1 by clamping the ruler at the 6 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm, 9 cm and 10 cm marks respectively. Listen carefully for any sound produced. Sound is produced by vibration.

What is the difference between the sounds produced when you clamp the ruler at different positions? The sounds have different pitches. When the ruler is clamp at a lower mark, the sound produced has a higher pitch.
