Pilgrims and Native Americans By: Paula Decker

Unit Overview The Kindergarten class will learn about the Pilgrims, Indians and Thanksgiving. The students will be given a short story/journal. They are not expected to read the story. The story is available to them to expand their learning and reading abilities. As well as reading and language arts, the students will explore learning through mathematic and science exercises. One main theme of this project is for the students to learn how to thank and give. This unit will take place two weeks before Thanksgiving break.

Unit Objectives Grade: Kindergarten The child will be able: – To make predictions of a story – Explain how Pilgrims and the children are the same and different – To respond to a story in their journals – To make use of listening and thinking skills – Retell the good acts of the Native Americans – To know why we have holidays and how we celebrate them – To discover and graph scientific experiments – To use mathematical knowledge when using a manipulative – To gain knowledge of and be active in the act of thanking, giving, and sharing
