doc.: IEEE sru Submission Rationale The IG-SRU is under way to discuss the creation of a potential Study Group (SG). IG-SRU should consider the 900MHz ISM radio- band as one of the target bands when creating a potential Study Group. Such 900MHz radio-bands are utilized by PHY/MAC standards, e.g., IEEE g, IEEE ah. March 2013 Stefan Aust (NCOS)Slide 4

doc.: IEEE sru Submission Motivation There are several 900MHz ISM bands globally assigned (USA, Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, Europe, etc.) which are used by standardized PHY/MAC wireless radio systems. IEEE and IEEE are developing global PHY/MAC standards operating in the so-called “sub-1 GHz” radio-band at 900MHz and will co-exist in the near future. Improved spectrum usage in sub-1 GHz bands is imminent. March 2013 Stefan Aust (NCOS)Slide 5

doc.: IEEE sru Submission Directions 1/2 Identification of spectrum usage challenges in the 900MHz band as part of a potential Study Group creation, such as –Identification of differences between 900MHz and 2.4 GHz radio-bands (more channels, less bandwidth, less tx power, more terminals, etc.) Classification of co-existence problems –Hidden terminal, packet collisions, inefficient spectrum usage, etc. March 2013 Slide 6Stefan Aust (NCOS)

doc.: IEEE sru Submission Directions 2/2 Creation of potential use cases for the 900MHz band which relates to the concurrent use of IEEE and IEEE systems. Discussion of potential solutions, measurement reports, efficient use of spectrum, etc. Results will be used to support the Study Group and may lead to a PAR which then will refer to target bands including the 900MHz ISM radio-band. March 2013 Stefan Aust (NCOS)Slide 7

doc.: IEEE sru Submission Straw poll Do you support to include the 900MHz ISM radio- band as one of the target radio-bands for a potential SRU Study Group? Further, do you agree that sub-1 GHz use-case scenarios should be discussed in a potential SRU Study Group? Yes No March 2013 Stefan Aust (NCOS)Slide 8
