the Earth, Sun, and Moon BY SARAH MILLINGTON

SIZE (The diameter) The sizes of the three planets are all different. The Moon’s size is 3,475km (you could fit 4 Moons in the Earth). The Earth is much bigger than the Moon, its diameter is 6,371km. The Sun is a lot larger than the Earth and Moon combined it is,1.392 million km.

Gravity The Moon has six times less the gravity on Earth. It has 1.622 m/s 2. The Earth has 9.78m/s2. The Sun has the strongest gravity out of the Earth and Moon. It has 274m/s2. Gravity also effects your weight. If you have less gravity you have less weight.

Water EARTH MOON There is a ton of water on Earth. In fact 70% of the Earths surface is water. Water on the Moon has always been questioned. Water has been discovered on the Moon. There are tiny particles of ice everywhere.

Revolving and Orbiting The Earth rotates around the Sun. It takes 365 days (one year) for the Earth to do one full spin around the Sun! The Moon orbits the Earth. The Moon takes 291/2 days to orbit the Earth! The Sun does not orbit anything! Galileo proved it!

Weathering and Erosion Because the Moon’s water is frozen there is little to no weathering. There is weathering and erosion on the Earth! The Sun is what causes weathering and erosion on the Earth. The Sun’s heat shines on the rocks on Earth it expends and breaks down. Weathering is a process where rock is dissolved, worn away, or broken down into smaller pieces. Erosion can be caused by natural elements such as wind, rain, and glacier ice.

Rotating on its Axis The Moon takes 27.322 days to rotate on its axis. The Earth takes 24hrs (one day) to rotate on its axis. The Sun takes 24.47 days to rotate on its axis.

Weather and Atmosphere Moon Earth The moon has no atmosphere. The temperature range is 387*F- 253*F. The Earth does have an atmosphere. It holds air on our planet. Some types of weather is snow, hail, sleet, rain, and wind.

The Tides Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels. They are caused by the combination effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon, the Sun, and the rotation of Earth.

What Causes the Seasons? The tilt on the Earth’s axis causes the seasons. When the Earths axis I pointed in different directions it causes the different seasons!
