Q G Meeting the TOS Challenges and Solutions Steve Welch and Ernie Steve Welch and Ernie Neumann

Q G  The program is the producer’s first National distribution. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  The Producer has successfully supplied a number of local and regional programs.  None of the programs generated negative technical comments. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  The producer has the impression their programs have had the highest technical quality.  None of the producer’s past programs were budgeted or scheduled for technical evaluation. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  The decision is made to distribute the program nationally.  To sell the idea of the program going nationally, the budget was established optimistically.  No funds exist to fix technical problems. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  The budgeted time for production runs out before the program is finished.  There is a rush of activity to get the program evaluated and shipped for national distribution. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  The technical evaluation reveals non- compliance with the distributor’s specifications.  Poor communication, lack of regard or lack of understanding is frequently the cause.  Specifications not understood will not disappear. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  When planning program technical evaluations producer’s should keep in mind…  Technical personnel are likely consumed with doing the basics to keep the operation functional.  They have little immediate time for complex new requirements. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  As a technical person, plan early…  Capital budgets are tight; it is easy for evaluation test equipment to move to the bottom of the list.  Ask the production department if programs are planned for national distribution. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  Programs destined for national distribution will have to meet distributor specifications.  Determine if existing equipment and your resources allow verification of the program.  Explore outside evaluation resources as may be appropriate for your operation. San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop

Q G  Questions and comments San Francisco Public Television Quality Workshop
