Preparing our students for 21 st century citizenship No – we are not Will we ever meet our students’ expectations fully? Realistically no – we won’t. Students change, constantly! Are we moving toward meeting our students’ expectations? Yes, definitely – and it will set us apart Are we meeting our students’ expectations fully?

Preparing our students for 21 st century citizenship Session will focus on two strategic themes: Outstanding Academic Programming Goal: Offer leading-edge dynamic academic programs Goal: Be a leading provider of technology-enabled learning opportunities Experiential Education for All Goal: Be a world-leading university in co-op education and other forms of experiential and work-integrated learning

Preparing our students for 21 st century citizenship Initiatives to promote high quality teaching Instructional development : In 2014/15, the Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) provided 220 workshops to nearly 3,000 instructors and had nearly 6,000 consultations with more than 1,200 instructors Enhanced graduate student supervision : In 2015 CTE and GSO developed a 2- day graduate supervision series to assist new faculty in gaining ADDS status (30 participants in F2015) Quality teaching and learning space : ~$6M was committed to improve existing classrooms and develop new active learning spaces A Teaching and Learning Space Committee will soon exist

Preparing our students for 21 st century citizenship Enhancing graduate professional and transferable skills: Waterloo developed 3 of 18 online modules for MyGradSkills.ca as part of a multi-institutional provincially- funded project Communications skills initiatives: Our Writing Centre was a partner in developing the first three writing modules for WriteOnline.ca Course evaluations : An institutional strategy document on student assessment of academic courses is forthcoming Initiatives to promote high quality teaching
