“ I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts. Like my ribs, my kidneys, my liver, my heart. Like my blood, It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a necessity for me-like food or water.”- Ray Charles. This quote tells my whole life in a few words. Like the air that I breath, music is something that I need and could never live without. My mother told me a story about when I was a baby, I cried my heart out all the time but when a song comes on I would become mute. I go on websites and listen to songs and when I like them I download them and play them over and over until their played out to me. After a couple of months I hear that song on the radio and now everyone loves it! Realizing that I have a ear for music I started dreaming about me and music being closer then ever, meeting the people that makes the music and sing and rap the tunes that we listen to and play all the time. Why not be an announcer on an actual radio? In order to give a better understanding of my chosen career field I will be researching; Working conditions, Training qualifications and advancement, job out look, earnings and related occupation’s. Introduction

Nature of work(Responsibilities)  Present music, news, sports, the weather, the time, and commercials  Interview guests and moderate panels or discussions on their shows  Announce station programming information, such as program schedules and station breaks for commercials, or public service information  Research topics for comment and discussion during shows  Read prepared scripts on radio or television shows  Comment on important news stories  Provide commentary for the audience during sporting events, at parades, and on other occasions  Select program content  Make promotional appearances at public or private events  Meet with event directors to review schedules and obtain other event details  Present information or announcements, such as train schedules or security precautions  introduce upcoming acts and guide the audience through the entertainment  Provide commentary for a live audience during sporting events  Make promotional appearances at public or private events

Working conditions ✔ Mental not physical: Dead lines and tight scheduling can be very stressful ✔ Indoors not outdoors: Equipment like radio’s and television works more efficiently well-lit, air-conditioned and sound proof rooms ✔ Hours flexible: Some announcers work full time if not that then past time; allowed to be recorded earlier in the day aired later in the day

Training, Qualifications, Advancement  Education: Bachelor’s degree communications, broadcasting and journalism  Training: Short-term on the job training; get to know the equipment  Advancement: Relocating into a larger radio market; attract, engage and keep sizeable audience; relying on social media sites, promotional appearance on behalf of the station; Selling commercial time to advertise

Job Outlook  Place of work: New York City  Desired employment of work: Hot 97 Where Hip-Hop lives

$$..Earning..$$  Pay: $25,750/yr & $13.34/ph

Backup Career Responsibilities:  Inspect hair, face, and scalp, to recommend treatment  Discuss hair-style options  Wash, color, and condition hair  Cut, dry, and style hair  Receive payments from clients  Clean and sanitize all tools and work areas Degree required:  No degree needed Job outlook:  Growing over the year Earnings:  $22,770 per year  $10.95 per hour

Conclusion After Researching the field that I wanted to be I came to the conclusion that I don’t make as much money that I would really like to. I will still love to be this because I feel that money does not bring happiness, I would rather be happy at doing something I love and getting enough money to live then to go to work everyday and hate what I do. I look forward to working with the type of music that I love. Overall I learned that nine times out of ten I will need a back up plane because the different place I want go and see.
