A Story …  2 nd Grade Team at CLK8  Changes over time  What does it look like  Positive Results using Common Formative Assessments

Positive Interactions  It’s been such a wonderful learning experience for me to be able to collaborate and plan with teachers who LOVE Math and genuinely care about their students. PRSMS students have the most caring and dedicated teachers! PRSMS MATH ROCKS!  When my PLC meets, it’s anything but a “chore” or “another meeting we have to attend.” I am so blessed to work with people who share the same passion for our subject that I do. We all come to the table with incredible ideas, and they always seem to melt together in a way that creates dynamic lessons and learning experiences for our students. There is a lot of laughter, a lot of snacking, but also a lot of in-depth work that meets the needs of all of our learners. It’s “our” kids and not “my” kids in our PLC!

Positive Collaboration  My PLC has supported me by helping me get into the swing of things when I returned from maternity leave. Mr. Heffron & Mr. Simmons were both extremely understanding and really eased my stress by helping provide resources for my sub, so I could focus on my newest little one.  Now, as we are starting to create projects, formative assessments, and are exploring opportunities to use technology in new ways, I appreciate that we can share ideas and grow in our methods of helping students interact with U.S. History content.  We each bring something different to the table, and are starting to utilize each other to better our practice. Roger provides rich historical “story” backgrounds, and Scott has innovative ideas to use technology each unit.

Positive Responses  Based on PLC planning and expectations, teachers are providing immediate response and remediation based on strengths in practice of that particular teaching PLC.  For example, if Mrs. Smith is effective by having 80% proficiency in a common assessment after teaching odd and even numbers. The other 3 classes each have less than 50% proficiency. Immediately after the results are in, Mrs. Smith will reteach the lesson to the students in other classes that are not proficient. The other teachers on the team are going to take proficient students for enrichment and practice. Each student will have multiple chances to understand each concept.  Teachers are able to reflect and discuss their strengths to build capacity across grade level.

Positive Change Focus Area: PLC Implementation  100% of teachers at JWMHS are involved in a PLC that meets in person (common) or online (limited) each week Focus Area: Common Assessments & Unit Plans  85% of core subject areas use multiple common formative and summative assessments throughout the semesters AND 100% of elective classes with more than one teacher (World Languages, Psychology 1) use common assessments  Of these, 100% of them complete and implement common unit plans with common learning scales

The Next Chapter Focus Area: Fidelity  Increase use of common assessments and unit plan lesson plans to 100% Focus Area: Reflection and Utilization of Data  Increase the frequency of reflection of instructional practices via the use of data (qualitative and quantitative) from common formative and summative assessments
