Reminders: Unit 3 Timeline/Chart due Today C 20 ques/notes/vocab due FRI 1/22 (C 21 ques/notes/vocab due WED 1/27) Skill Grade booster: Fri 1/22 Go over C 16,19 test CCOT questions? Tuesday 1/26 CCOT Planning (Western Europe)

Top 6 Things to Remember??  Thesis MUST answer the question that is asked  Characteristics at the beginning of the time period?  Key Changes from beginning of period?  Key Continuities during the period?  Reasons for continuities and/or changes?  World Historic CONTEXT? & TUES 1/26: CCOT Planning Western Europe

WORLD HISTORY SECTION II Part B (Suggested planning and writing time—40 minutes) Percent of Section II score—33 1/3 Directions: You are asked to answer the following question. You should spend 5 minutes organizing and outlining your essay. Write an essay that: Has a relevant thesis and supports that thesis with appropriate historical evidence Addresses all parts of the question Uses world historical context to show continuities and changes over time Analyzes the process of continuity and change over time. _____________________________________________________ 2. Analyze continuities and changes in labor systems in ONE of the following regions within the time period 1450 to Latin America the Caribbean North America

That YOU have identified

A simplified plan suggested by the the AP World History Essay Writer’s Handbook: Thesis: “During the time period (date) to (date), the (topic) experienced several changes in terms of ______________however, _____________ stayed the same throughout the era. Each body paragraph should: Contain a topic sentence that sets the topic example in a time context Contain three specific examples that support your topic sentence Connect the historical events of the paragraph to the global context of the era Close by stating a reason for the change or continuity The labor systems of Latin America from changed in that there came to be a small group of wealthy elite in control of other people, however the labor systems have always been focused on the production of agriculture.

From , European exploration led to the linkage of the Old and New Worlds and the development of coercive labor systems in Latin America. These systems began with the utilization of Amerindians as the major source of labor, but this shifted to African slaves due to demographic disaster of the indigenous people due to new diseases introduced. However, throughout the period, labor systems were used to economically benefit the European country that created the colonies.

CCOT Essay :  Avoid using words that reflect YOUR POV: better, more simple, normal….  Make sure that you include the TIME PERIOD in your thesis  World Historic Context (WHC) is the most problematic: For the world historical context point, you want to draw some kind of broader connection with processes around the world that would have affected, impacted or influenced the subject of your question. Example: Point out a World Wide Trend from that time period, BUT you must clearly place your region/topic within that trend in some sort of comparative / contextual way.

CCOT Reminders: DON’T put reason or analysis in the thesis. DON’T be vague. DO use specifics as evidence. DO analyze (provide a reason for) BOTH a Change AND a continuity that you have identified DO make sure and discuss conditions present BEFORE the CHANGE. CHANGE must be discussed as a PROCESS. Continuity is LACK of change, NOT continuous change! WHC MUST tie back to your question- you need to clearly DO this. Thesis: “During the time period (date) to (date), the (topic) experienced several changes in terms of ______________however, _____________ stayed the same throughout the era.
