Sweet Betsy from Pike Gold was discovered in California in By 1849, thousands of Americans rushed to California to seek their fortunes. Some, like Betsy and her husband Ike, traveled in covered wagons to get there. The trip was long and hard. Settlers faced many dangers. They risked their lives to travel west.

Sweet Betsy from Pike In this song, the story of Betsy and Ike’s trip is told in six verses. Each verse is followed by a refrain. A verse is a section of a song where the melody stays the same when it repeats. The words, however, change. A refrain is a section of a song that is sung the same way every time it repeats. Sing ”Sweet Betsy from Pike” and find out what happened along the way.
