The Battle Of Passchendaele

Who was involved? England and Canada VS Germany VS

What was the battle of Passchendaele? The battle of Passchendaele is also know as the third battle of Ypres, Belgium. It is a symbol of the mud, madness, and senseless slaughter of the first world war. It was a series of failed attacks by England on Germany. England and Canada ended up winning when Canada came in near the end of the battle and captured the Passchendaele ridge.

When did it occur? The battle started on July 11, 1917 and ended on November 10, 1917.

Where did it happen? Everything took place outside the village of Passchendaele near the town of Belgium.

Why was it such a good representation of the first world war? It is a good representation because there were so many casualties in the battle, and the tough and mostly ineffective fight most soldiers were faced with (war in the trenches)

Around how many casualties were in the battle? England lost an estimation of about 275,000 casualties Germany was estimated to have 220,000 casualties Canada had around 4000 casualties This is know to be one of the most costly battles in the war
