Maryland By: Delaynie McPhee

Maryland was founded in 1633 by the first Lord Baltimore.

Maryland was part of the Southern Colonies. The southern colonies were perfect for farming because of their mild winter and their fertile soil.

Products  corn; wheat; rice and indigo.

Important Historical Information  Queen Henrietta Maria of England was named after Maryland.  The first owner was Gorge Calvert also called Lord Baltimore the first.

Fascinating fact  The second owner was Cecilicus Calvert.  Children often saw both their parents die of starvation.  Maryland planters though that raising tobacco was almost as good as finding gold.  In the early days Maryland was a unhealthy place to live.
