Objective Of Presentation To provide some insight into the challenges faced by exporters and potential exporters with specific emphasis on nutmeg and its value added products.

What are the Challenges? Proper Identification of Markets Meeting the requirements of border control and other regulatory agencies Meeting market demands for supply and quality Providing a proper mix of products to the Market that meets its needs and its maximizes profits

Overcoming Challenges Apply Porter’s Principle; refine your product on the local Market first. Properly define your product, Develop your Product Specification and Material Safety Data Sheets Have your products tested and implement your Quality Management System

Do research on Market Entry Requirements Consult your Bureau of Standards and Ministry Of Trade Go to websites such as Determine what Certifications you need if any What are the recognized certification bodies (private or regulator) Research the various label requirements and declarations needed by the market place

Meeting Market Demand For Supply and Quality Know and understand your value chain Be flexible and be able to create new value chains Have adequate working capital Pay close attention to your quality control and reward not only based on production but also on quality criteria Invest in Research and Development to cope with changing market requirements

Maximize Profits Determine the appropriate product mix and work towards it Nutmeg: Whole, Ground Products, Essential oil, Fixed oil, Oleoresin, Myristic Acid, Trimyristin

Develop Capacity within the Domestic Space to further facilitate Investment into tertiary products Invest profits back to the start of the supply chain to increase production To supply the right quality of planting material Ensure a consistent high quality supply of products right through the value chain
