STEP 1 Fill out the PINK Letter of Recommendation request form, which can be found in the counseling office. Be sure to include the following: Classes you have taken with this teacher How many copies you need Things you want them to include about you
Step 2 HAND DELIVER the form to the teacher and VERBALLY request the recommendation.
Be sure to allow at least 15 working days!! REMEMBER: This does NOT include weekends or holidays!! And Chocolate helps too…
If the teacher agrees, enter recommendation request in Naviance. Go to Or log on to Naviance account (If you need your Naviance username and/or password, contact your counselor) STEP 3
In Naviance, go to Colleges tab > click “Colleges I’m Applying To”
The first item you will see is the Common Application FERPA waiver; this will be explained in Step 3.
Scroll down to Teacher Recommendations and click “Add/Cancel Requests”.
Select teacher from drop down menu (a personal note is optional, but a nice touch!). Scroll down and click “Update Requests”. STEP 2 (continued):
Student must be accurate regarding Naviance delivery type: Common Application Other Electronic Paper This will be indicated under “Delivery Type” when you have added the college name to your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list):
If Common App: Student should have already created account on In Naviance, go to Colleges tab > click “Colleges I’m Applying To”. Complete all portions of the FERPA waiver, enter Common App username and password and click “Submit” (see next slide). ** Note: If you will NOT be using The Common Application at all, you may simply skip the FERPA waiver. If Other Electonic: no further action is required by the student. If Paper: student provides teacher with any required college forms and letter-sized envelope addressed to the college including one (1) first-class stamp. STEP 3 (continued):
