Element Name or Family Information Sean Reasor,

Chlorine, the 2 nd Halogen Chlorine is a natural, radioactive element, but it cannot be found in nature by itself. Chlorine was discovered by Charles Scheele. He found chlorine by heating manganese with hydrochloric acid. Chlorine contains 17 protons, and 17 electrons. Sean Reasor, This is chlorine gas inside of a test-tube. It appears as a yellowish-green gas.

Chlorine, the 2 nd Halogen Chlorine is a gas at room temperature, and very toxic. Since chlorine is so toxic, it is often used in dangerous gases, such as Tear Gas. Chlorine is the 10 th most common element in our bodies! Chlorine’s name comes from the Greek word “Chloros”, meaning “Greenish-yellow gas”. Sean Reasor, Chlorine is highly toxic! As a liquid, it will burn your skin, and as a gas, you could burn your lungs.
