Journalism in Space BY MIKE HEBB

Journalism has been with space from the start Journalism has followed the journey in to the last frontier since we went there There are words that almost everyone knows (they are on the next slide)

Space in the news In the early days there was no internet, all the news came on TV or in the newspaper When the Apollo missions were on TV families would gather around the TV and watch it together.

There were tragedies too There was Apollo 1 where 3 astronauts died during a test A spark light a fire in the cabin

Mission 51L The mission had a bad start. It was delayed multiple times The shuttle exploded 73 seconds after liftoff

VSS Enterprise crash The vehicle broke up 11 seconds after ignition It was dropped from carrier aircraft 1 person lived and 1 person died
