Toy Story and Pixar

What are the words that come to your mind when you hear "Toy Story"? Why? What do you know about Toy Story (producers, writers, voices, etc.)?

Now, read the text about Toy Story and fill in the Toy Story information chart.

Who are the main characters in Toy Story? What about the other characters? Which character do you like best? Why?

About the movie... What happens when Buzz arrives? Why do you think Woody doesn’t like Buzz at the beginning of the movie? How do you describe the relationship between Buzz and Woody at the end of the movie?

It’s your turn...  Work in groups of three.  Write 3 Wh- questions about Toy Story.  When you’re done, ask them to your classmates.

Do you think this quote appeals to Steve Jobs? How? Do you agree with the following quote? Discuss with your partner.

Who’s Jeffrey Katzenberg? He’s is an American film producer and CEO of DreamWorks Animation. Wikipedia

 Katzenberg shares some traits with Jobs. What do you think these traits might be?  Read the first page of chapter 22: Toy Story, Buzz and Woody to the Rescue and find the traits Katzenberg and Jobs share.

Who’s John Lasseter? He’s an American animator, director and the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. Wikipedia

Why do you think John Lasseter came up with the idea of “Toy Story” when Disney and Pixar discussed partnering on a film? Read the first two pages of chapter 22: Toy Story, Buzz and Woody to the Rescue and check your guesses. Do you agree with the following? Please explain in detail. “Products have an essence to them, a purpose for which they were made” (Chapter 22)

Read the second and the third pages of Chapter 22 and answer the following question. How did the two main characters go through iterations before they ended up as Buzz Lightyear and Woody?

Do you think Toy Story is a Pixar or a Disney Movie? Why do you think so? Look at the following sentences from Chapter 22. Why do you think Steve Jobs thought that Toy Story was a Pixar movie? “The only rub for Jobs was that reviewers such as Maslin wrote of the “Disney tradition,” not the emergence of Pixar. After reading her review, he decided he had to go on the offensive to raise Pixar’s profile” Read the forth page of Chapter 22 and find what Steve Jobs did to show that Toy Story was a Pixar movie?

Thank you for your participation.
