Simple Machines

Warm-up ●Our school is filled with simple machines, can you help me identify at least 5 of them. Name the object and tell what type of simple machine it is. ●Example: A ramp is an example of a inclined plane (you can not use this as one of yours)

You will be grouped into the following topics in which you ●Wedge ●inclined plane ●wheel and axle ●1 st class lever ●2 nd class lever ●3 rd class lever ●pulley ●Screw ●Compound Machine

You and a partner will be working on a poster. For this assignment I will assign you a simple machine and you will have to: ● Explain how it works in at least 5 sentences and provide at least two real world examples ● Explain how your simple machine makes work easier include the word mechanical advantage in your explanation. ● Include a colored picture

For example If I were assigned a gear this is how I would start Gears are similar to the wheel and axle simple machine except gears have teeth that attaches to another gear, allowing it to turn. Gears can come in various sizes and a specific amount of teeth which allows them to turn and change object’s speed or force. Bicycles use gears in both ways. If you want to pedal up a hill, you use gears to increase your force so you don't have to work quite so hard but this also reduces your speed at the same time.

Simple machine models ● I am going to pass out some materials that you are going to use to model the simple machines that we presented on. ● You are not to touch or eat any materials that we are using until I give permission for you to do so.
