AUA Member Accreditation Process Feb 2016

What is Member Accreditation? “The AUA formally recognises the commitment you make to your own ongoing professional development, as well as that of others, through the Membership Accreditation Scheme” Three levels of membership: – Member – Accredited Member – Fellow

Benefits of the Scheme – Formal recognition of your personal and professional commitment to ongoing development of yourself and others within the Higher Education sector. – Use of additional letters after your name – AMAUA or FAUA – Opportunity to reflect on your experience and skills – useful for other applications such as contribution zone or job applications – Recognised across the sector

What you need to apply – Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) – 25 hours over 2 years for Accredited Member – 30 hours over 3 years for Fellowship – Professional Knowledge and Capability – Professional Reflection – Cover minimum of 3 competencies – Cover all 9 competencies – Two References

Continuing Professional Development – Attend a training course (in house / AUA event) – Get a mentor – Be a mentor – Networking – Focused discussion – Job shadowing – Talking to someone – Produce resources – Deliver a training course – Research a topic – Read an article – Read resources

Tools to Help with CPD – Use the PDR tool within the members area on the AUA website – – Allows you to input dates, hours and details of activities you do – Can be imported into your application when ready to apply – Useful to keep up to date for re-accreditation or even for internal PDR – Remains with your for your entire membership, even if you change institution

Professional Knowledge and Capability Knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles associated with your area of work, and an ability to evaluate and interpret these within the context of that area of study You can demonstrate this evidence through the following means: – Certificate of level 4 award or higher, or equivalent – A piece of work/ report produced within your current role that demonstrates these abilities (1000 words max) – A statement of evidence and examples that demonstrate these abilities (1000 words max)

Professional Reflection – Key part of the application, and the most useful – Accredited Member: – 750 – 1000 word statement demonstrating how your CPD relates to at least 3 of the 9 professional behaviours of the CPD Framework – Fellow: – 1000 – 1500 word statement demonstrating how your CPD relates to all 9 professional behaviours of the CPD Framework, the impact of this on others and the sector, and how you have helped others – Key difference between the two is Fellowship requires the development / training / support of others

Renewal of Status – Accredited Member or Fellowship status remains for 5 years – After this you will need complete a maintenance application – If you have Accredited Member, might be an opportunity to apply for Fellowship – Maintenance application consists of: – CPD Record – Professional Reflection – Fellows who do not submit this will revert to Accredited Member

How Can Your Branch Team Help? – The MMU Branch team has so far had two members successfully apply for Fellowship – We are offering one-to-one coaching for members who wish to pursue an application (subject to demand) – Reviewing of statement or just talking through how you may want to structure it

Thank You! We hope you decide to apply.
