2 Federal Aviation Administration 2 DCC Acoustic Noise Overview Executive Summary –Sound conditions in the DCC Operational Area have made coordination difficult and diminished the quality of work life within the operation. The key area of concern that affects Operations is highlighted in Diagram 1. However, all areas/noise issues on the OPS Floor must be addressed –Overall, sound carries too well and the volume of conversations seems to be amplified. In some cases to be heard a few feet away requires an employee to raise his/her voice level significantly –Additionally, acoustic hot zones and/or reflected sound make conversations from across the room clearly heard, while closer conversations are drowned out. Open Room Design does not block direct Audio Propagation Across the Floor Acoustic Material Absorbing currently mounted only up to 7-9 ft on 20 foot OPS Room Walls –Possible Reverberation Issue –Possible Reflection Issues Ceiling design may be contributing to problem ( analysis required ) –Possible Reverberation Issue –Possible Reflection Issues See Attached Picture ( 1 ) –Additional issues are apparently caused by the: Operational (CCSW) phone system speakers projecting Audio from the back of the phone; Ring tones emanating from the operational phone system which are annoying Possible Reflection/Reverb of CCSW Rear Propagation Audio on Console Wall See Attached Picture (2 & 3 ) Cooling fans adding an acoustic undertone before operational noise is added; not a primary focus at this moment
