ERES Education Seminar Bucharest2 Introduction This presentation explores the rational for establishing an ERES Doctoral Network. Over time the doctoral session at the ERES annual conference has increased in size and importance. – participants and 89 registered doctoral student participants – reflects a significant growth in the number of real estate doctoral students in Europe which in turn is related to the expansion in the provision of real estate education.

ERES Education Seminar Bucharest Introduction While the annual doctoral session is very important for fostering networking between doctoral students it remains a once a year event and as a result will never be a permanent mechanism for promoting constructive engagement between PhD students in real estate across Europe. The establishment of an appropriate mechanism which promotes dialog between students 365 days a year should be a priority for ERES given that the fostering of a future generation of real estate researchers and educators is essential to its survival.

ERES Education Seminar Bucharest4 Network Objectives Foster a Real Estate Doctoral Community in Europe A permanent mechanism to promote constructive engagement Act as a forum to share information on academic resources and experiences Raise the quality of doctoral training Ultimately the network should take responsibility for running the annual ERES doctoral session, thus improving it and ensuring consistency of format between years – Presentation vs. Poster Formats etc.

ERES Education Seminar Bucharest5 Network Organisation Electronic Portal which is something more than a Facebook group Sharing Doctoral Academic Resources and Networking as key components An ERES product but ultimately needs to be led and shaped by its participants. – Network Committee – Position on ERES Board for chair and vice-chair – Key role in helping with the organisation of doctoral related activities

ERES Education Seminar Bucharest6 Some Thoughts on Activities Improving the organisation and consistency of the Annual Doctoral Seminar so that they better meet the needs of doctoral students – Format – Convenors Re-brand the welcome reception at the annual conference as the ERES Doctoral Network Reception to promote networking between doctoral students and conference participants Organise one or two Doctoral Training Master Classes as part of the Annual Conference

ERES Education Seminar Bucharest7 Some Thoughts on Activities Act as a focus for raising funds to facilitate the attendance of doctoral students at the annual conference Engage in a wider global network through the promotion of the Network through the International Real Estate Society.

ERES Education Seminar Bucharest8 A Plan for Action Proposal Needs to be formalised prior to next ERES Board Meeting Inputs and ideas on shaping the proposal are very welcome Some elements might be feasibly implemented at the Milan conference Launch of the Network at the Milan Conference? A very important project for ERES in that it formalises much of what has been achieved so far and takes it to the next level.
