Claimed from the Mississippi to the Canadian Border(in the name of France) 1765 – Le Grand Dérangement – Expulsion of the Acadians The Acadians became refugees in Louisiane ACADIANA – is what Acadians called their settlement in Louisiane Cajun – Comes from pronunciation of Acadien. Cajun is a Culture – Acadians adapted to local influence and Geography that affected and changed their culture. Cajun Culture includes : Musique: Cajun – violon et l’accordéon Zydeco - l’accordéon et planche à laver Zydeco means “les haricots ne sont pas salés”. This expression can mean “ so poor, no salt for beans/snap peas” or “ no spicy news for you” Cuisine – Jambalaya ( Jamba – comes from jambon) and Gumbo Traditions et Fêtes – Mardi Gras
