CHESS IN SCHOOL IN GEORGIA Brussels, February 24, Georgian Chess Federation Presents

Historic Date March 15, 2012 – European Parliament took a decision after which chess has gained higher public recognition not only as a kind of sports but also as an unalienable part of an educational system in the world.

The Best Teacher February 18, Demonstration lesson of the legendary chess player Mr. Garry Kasparov took place in Tbilisi school. Schoolchildren of the Georgian regions were watching it online.

Decisive Move March 17, The best female chess player ever Judit Polgar visits Tbilisi. Demonstration lesson and meeting with Minister of Education and Minister of Sports of Georgia.

Government Support President of the Georgian Chess Federation signs the Memorandum on Mutual Cooperation with the Ministers of Sports and Education of Georgia.

The work has started The process of retraining has begun for schoolteachers selected after interviews. Instructions for teachers and schoolchildren have been printed, CD-s were prepared. First stage: 309 schools in five regions of Georgia, over schoolchildren involved. Budget €

Popularization of the Project We have opened our web page and a Facebook page. We have daily communication with teachers and parents. There is also online chat. Online lessons are conducted and covered by mass media. Mestia 1500 meters above sea level

Strength is in Unity! We deeply believe that with joint efforts of European Parliament, European Chess Union, Georgian Government and Georgian Chess Federation we will reach the assigned goal and implement chess teaching in all schools of Georgia by Five time World Champions Nona Gaprindashvili and Maia Chiburdanidze
