“Leave an impression In six words.”  6-Word Memoirs “Leave an impression In six words.” 

6-Word Memoirs Legend has it that when Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a six-word story, he came up with “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Inspired by Hemingway’s short, short story, SMITH magazine, launched online in 2006, challenged readers and famous writers alike to submit their own six-word memoirs.

How it all started … Memoir Examples

Now it’s your turn! “OK. Now what?” “And?” “But where do I start?” Make lists!! Make lists of facts about yourself. Where do you live? How many siblings do you have? What are your favorite things to do? Your favorite foods? The possibilities are endless!! “But where do I start?” Use your lists to decide on the most important parts of your life. Are there words that show up multiple times in your lists? Is there a common theme? A pattern? “OK. Now what?” Circle six words from your list to summarize some aspect of who you are or what you like. Try to use mainly nouns and verbs. “And?”

Last step … Mrs. Winhold’s Writing Class Once you’ve created your 6-word memoir, find an image on the internet that matches the tone of your memoir. Create a visual to be used for the cover of your Memoir Project. Mrs. Winhold’s Writing Class
