Responding to Poetry Ms. Nebe

Reading poetry Poetry is meant to be read aloud, every chance possible read it aloud! Look for the “plot” of the poem Listen for sounds in the poem Does the poem appeal to any of the five senses

Look for layers Choose one or two literary devices that you can discuss in an educated manner Count lines and syllables to deduce if it’s a sonnet or has an internal rhythm Notice the end of each line and see if there’s any rhyme scheme

Feel Don’t be so intimidated by poetry How does it make you feel, go with your instincts Find some type of connection
