Classification & Evolution Intro Sorting Organisms

Key Question: How do you think scientists group organisms? Initial Thoughts:

Evidence 1: Sorting Shoes How would you group the shoes? Write the groups down in your journal.

Evidence 2: Kingdom Sort In your groups, try match up the kingdom name with the description and the organism picture. Paste in the table and the graphic organizer into your notebook.

Analysis Questions 1.What type of characteristics did you use to group the shoes? 2.What type of characteristics are used to group organisms into kingdoms? 3.What characteristics would you use to break up the animal kingdom into smaller groups?

Summary What did you think how organisms are organized before this lesson? What did you learn about how organisms are organized from this lesson? (Minimum of 3 sentences!!!) What are some further thoughts or questions you have about how organisms are organized?

Reflection Sketch a picture for each of the 6 kingdoms
